16x19 string pattern tennis racquets — the most popular open string pattern in modern tennis, delivering spin, ball pocketing, and a lively response. Sturdy Racquets stocks 16x19 string pattern tennis racquets across every major brand including the Wilson Blade 98 16x19, Babolat Pure Strike 16x19, Wilson Pro Staff and more.
What is a 16x19 string pattern?
16x19 means 16 main strings (vertical) and 19 cross strings (horizontal) — an "open" pattern with wider gaps between strings. The open spacing lets the strings move slightly more on impact, biting into the ball for added spin and giving the racquet a livelier, more powerful feel. It's the dominant pattern in modern aggressive baseline tennis.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does 16x19 mean on a tennis racquet?
16 main strings running top-to-bottom and 19 cross strings running side-to-side. The "open" pattern (fewer strings, wider gaps) lets strings move more on impact, generating more spin than denser patterns.
Is 16x19 better than 18x20?
For spin and modern aggressive baseline tennis, yes — 16x19 delivers more spin, more power, and a livelier feel. For control specialists who want flatter, more precise hitting, 18x20 is better. Most players today choose 16x19.
What's the trade-off with 16x19?
Slightly less control on directional accuracy and faster string wear (the moving strings rub against each other more). String breakers should consider 18x20 or use durable polyester strings.
Which 16x19 racquet is most popular?
The Babolat Pure Drive (300g) is the world's most popular 16x19 racquet. Wilson Blade 98 16x19 is the top tour-level choice; Yonex Ezone 100 is popular with women's tennis.
What strings work best in a 16x19?
Polyester strings strung at 22–25 kg maximise the spin advantage of the open pattern. Multifilament works for comfort-focused players. Hybrid setups deliver tour-level results.
