Aluminium tennis racquets — affordable, durable frames perfect for beginners, schools, casual players, and anyone learning the game. Sturdy Racquets stocks the full Australian range of aluminium tennis racquets in adult and junior sizes from leading brands at entry-level pricing.

Why choose an aluminium tennis racquet?

Aluminium frames are the most affordable racquets on the market and the toughest. Unlike graphite frames, aluminium doesn't crack from impact, making it ideal for beginners who occasionally hit the court or fence, school programs where multiple players share equipment, and anyone wanting an inexpensive backup or first racquet. The trade-off: aluminium is heavier and less responsive than graphite, so it's less suited to competitive play.

Aluminium options for adults and juniors

Our range includes adult aluminium frames from leading brands like Wilson, Babolat, and Dunlop — typically pre-strung and ready to play. Junior aluminium racquets are widely used in school tennis programs and Hot Shots junior development, available in sizes from 19" through to 26". For developing players ready to upgrade, our junior tennis racquets and beginner tennis racquets ranges step up to graphite-composite frames.

When to upgrade from aluminium

If you're playing weekly, taking lessons, or competing in club tennis, you'll likely outgrow aluminium quickly. The next step up is a graphite-composite or full-graphite frame in our intermediate range, which delivers significantly more responsive play, better feel, and a wider sweet spot. For juniors moving from school to club tennis, a graphite junior racquet is a meaningful upgrade.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between aluminium and graphite tennis racquets?
Aluminium frames are heavier, less responsive, and more durable; graphite frames are lighter, more responsive, and offer better feel — but can crack on hard impacts. Aluminium suits learners and casual players; graphite suits regular and competitive players.

How long does an aluminium racquet last?
Aluminium frames are extremely durable and rarely break — many last for decades. The strings will need replacing every 6–12 months with regular use, but the frame itself usually outlives the player's interest.

Are aluminium racquets pre-strung?
Yes — virtually all aluminium tennis racquets ship pre-strung with synthetic gut at a moderate tension. They're ready to play straight out of the box. See our pre-strung tennis racquets collection for ready-to-play options.

Are aluminium racquets good for tennis lessons?
Aluminium is the standard choice for school programs and group lessons because of its durability and low cost. For private lessons aiming at competitive play, a graphite or composite frame from our beginner tennis racquets range is a better choice.

Can adults use junior aluminium racquets?
Adult-sized aluminium racquets are 27 inches; junior aluminium racquets are 19"–26". Adults playing for fun can use the largest junior size (26") if budget is tight, but a 27" adult racquet will deliver significantly better performance.
