What’s in a pickleball set?
It depends on the set, but most include:
-
2 or 4 paddles — matching pairs so you can play singles or doubles right away
-
4 to 6 pickleball balls — usually outdoor balls (harder, with smaller holes); some sets include indoor balls too
-
A portable net — official size (6.7m wide, 91cm tall in the middle) with a carry bag
-
A storage bag — to keep everything together when you’re not playing
-
Sometimes: court line markers, paddle covers, or a rule guide

Bulk sets with extra paddles (4+) built to handle daily use. Outdoor balls and durable frames.
What to look for in a portable net
If a set comes with a net, here’s what to check:
-
Width: 6.7 metres is the regulation size. Anything smaller is for training only, not real games.
-
Height: 91cm at the centre (with adjustable straps).
-
Frame: Powder-coated steel is the most durable for outdoors. Aluminium is lighter but less tough.
-
Setup time: Quality nets take 4–8 minutes to set up. Anything longer gets annoying.
-
Carry bag: Should be included. Most sets weigh 6–10kg when packed.

Common questions
What’s the best set for beginners in Australia?
Look for a set with lightweight paddles (7.3–7.8 oz), an official-size portable net (6.7m wide, 91cm tall), and at least 4 outdoor balls. Beginner sets are designed so you can start playing the same day — no extra purchases needed. Most of our customers in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide start with a 4-paddle family set.
How many people do I need to play?
Pickleball is usually played as doubles (4 players), but you can also play singles (2 players). Most sets come with 4 paddles, so you can run a doubles game right away.
Can I use a pickleball set outdoors?
Yes — most sets are made for outdoor play on concrete, asphalt or tennis court surfaces. Just make sure the set has outdoor balls (the harder ones with smaller holes — usually 40 holes). Indoor balls (softer, with 26 bigger holes) don’t last long outside.
What size net do I need?
Official pickleball nets are 6.7 metres wide and 91cm tall in the centre (with the sides slightly higher, about 86cm). Most quality portable nets in sets meet these specs. Avoid mini training nets — they don’t match real game conditions.
What’s the difference between indoor and outdoor balls?
Indoor balls are softer with bigger holes (26 holes typically). They’re made for gym floors. Outdoor balls are harder with smaller, more numerous holes (40 holes) to fight the wind. Most Australian players use outdoor balls.
Do you ship across Australia?
Yes — we ship to all states and territories including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart, Darwin and regional areas. Most metro orders arrive within 2–5 business days. We ship from our Brooklyn, VIC warehouse.
How long does a portable net last?
With regular outdoor use, a good net lasts 2–5 years. Powder-coated steel handles Australian sun and rain better than untreated steel. Store the net in its bag indoors when you’re not playing — that’ll make it last longer.
Can I use a pickleball set on a tennis court?
Yes — lots of people do. A pickleball court is 6.1m wide and 13.4m long, which fits inside a tennis service box. Many tennis clubs in Australia now have pickleball lines painted on existing courts.
